Supporting a 280, 000 employee workforce, our intersectional lens makes us uniquely qualified to engage with the Department and other employee associations. We focus on psychological safety and authenticity, and are composed of employees serving within a multi-mission law enforcement Department. Our objectives are as follows:
- To identify and address issues affecting DHS employees using an intersectional framework examining across a spectrum of experiences and identities, including but not limited to, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, classes, genders, religion, races, HIV/AIDS statuses, ethnicities, ages, trauma, and abilities of employees of the Department;
- To support and guide the Department in the development and implementation of effective policies and practices for the elimination of systemic racism, extremism, xenophobia, transphobia, workplace bullying, harassment, sexual assault, retaliation, discrimination, and all other forms of violence;
- To support and guide the Department in the development and implementation of effective policies and practices for “Healthy to Innovative” work environments, such that all employees can thrive. These successful DHS employee work environments consist of a barrier-free foundation composed of psychological safety, moral courage, cultural competence, inclusion, diversity & equity, mission readiness, and innovation;
- To educate individuals or groups regarding the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual, pansexual (LGBTQIAP+) community’s diverse histories, to celebrate those experiences, and to acknowledge the continued violence faced by all marginalized communities;
- To serve as a resource and point of contact for its members, for those seeking or considering employment with the Department, and for individuals seeking to foster “Healthy to Innovative” work environments.
